The Ames Area Wood Turners (AAWT), a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) meets monthly throughout the year to promote learning and skill development in the art and craft of woodturning. Membership is open to people of all skill levels with an interest in creating functional or artistic items on a wood lathe. The AAWT is affiliated with the Ames Woodworkers Club and promotes and coordinates its activities with that group.
Typically the AAWT meets on the third Sunday of the month at shops of members. The club meetings feature demonstrations of wood turning projects and techniques, a short discussion of club business and a display of member turned proects. Peer project critiques are also available as well as periodic group orders of tools and supplies. Often members provide locally harvested wood to share with other members.
We have been meeting since 2005 and have been a local chapter of the AAW since 2011. If you are interested in, or curious about wood turning, you are welcome to sit in on one of our meetings.
